Passive surveillance, education and awareness of marine pests
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry worked closely with the Marine Pest Sectoral Committee (MPSC) and key stakeholders to develop educational material targeting ports, marinas, divers and aquaculture sectors.
The focus is to increase awareness of marine pests, leading to improved passive surveillance and reporting in these sectors.
The project is called Passive Surveillance, Education, and Awareness (PSEA) of marine pests. The project fulfils the objective to promote tailored education and awareness materials to engage marine pest observer groups in passive surveillance activities, under Activity 2.3 of the MarinePestPlan 2018-2023.
A project summary outlining the aims, outcomes and benefits of the PSEA project can be downloaded below.

Report it
See something unusual? Report it. Even if you’re not sure.
If you see something you think is a pest:
- note the exact location (screenshot your map app or enable photo geotagging on your phone)
- take a photo (use something for size reference, like a coin or note)
- contact your state or territory authority.
